Workplace
I’m a
Investigator
Employers in California have a legal duty to promptly investigate allegations of abuse, bias, discrimination and harassment and take appropriate action to prevent such conduct from occurring in the future. As an experienced employment lawyer, I conduct independent, unbiased, thorough and efficient workplace investigations and reach well-reasoned conclusions based on the available evidence, which employers (and their counsel) can use to reach informed decisions about resolving the matter and mitigating risk.

Leanne Rodgers has been practicing law in California for over 30 years, with a primary focus on employment law for the past 20. She has conducted numerous workplace investigations of all kinds, including investigations of alleged misconduct by senior executives and human resources professionals. As an experienced litigator, she understands that unbiased and thorough investigations are critical to avoiding and defending employee claims.
Before forming her own workplace investigation practice, Leanne was Senior Vice President and Chief Employment Counsel at Parsons Corporation in Pasadena, California, and also served as the company’s Chief Ethics Officer for several years. In those roles, Leanne was responsible for conducting or actively managing numerous investigations relating to workplace misconduct or violations of the Company's Code of Conduct, including hotline complaints. As Chief Ethics Officer, she regularly reported to the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors.
Leanne also served as the head of the Dispute Resolution Practice Group at Hilton Hotels Corporation (now Hilton Worldwide), where she led a team of lawyers and professionals handling claims and litigation worldwide, and personally managed the company’s employment claims and litigation in the Americas. While at Hilton, Leanne conducted many workplace investigations, often in conjunction with human resources or internal audit teams.
Previously, Leanne was a Lecturer at UCLA School of Law, where she taught Lawyering Skills, a first-year course that included legal research, analysis and writing, client and witness interviewing, and trial advocacy skills. She began her legal career as an associate in the litigation department of Gibson Dunn & Crutcher’s Los Angeles office, working tirelessly on high-profile commercial litigation matters, such as class actions and shareholder lawsuits.
Leanne graduated Magna Cum Laude from Loyola Law School of Los Angeles, where she was the Production Editor of the Law Review and a member of the Order of the Coif and the Saint Thomas More Law Honor Society.
She currently serves on the board of directors of her local Boys & Girls Club and was previously a board member for the Girl Scouts of Great Los Angeles.

Each investigation is tailored to address the specific allegations made and may include:
Intake discussion with your internal contact for the investigation, typically someone from your management, human resources, legal, or ethics and compliance team;
Review of relevant documents, including any written complaints, employee files, electronic communications (e.g., email, IM, or text messages), or other records;
Review of your implicated policies and procedures;
Interview(s) with the complainant, if their identity and contact information are known;
Interviews with witnesses and the accused individual(s);
Review of additional documentation or evidence, including site visits if warranted;
Reaching reasoned conclusions based on the available evidence;
A report (written or oral, per your direction) summarizing the complaint, the relevant evidence, and findings.

Assume nothing! Each investigation is approached with curiosity and an open mind, treating each individual with respect and kindness. Leanne understands that workplace investigations can be stressful for the participants and disruptive to the workplace. Therefore, she works discreetly and efficiently to complete thoughtful and thorough investigations, reaching well-reasoned conclusions based on the available evidence.
